This is Tammis Boam. She and I met about 8 years ago when she came with her husband, Dale, while he interpreted for General Conference. We only met a few times so I was pleasantly surprised to get an official letter via email from Women's Conference to help out with the Thursday Night Service Project. She was asked to oversee putting together 8,448 Newborn Kits. These kits will go to new Mom's all over the world who are in need of blankets, and diapers, and clothing to dress their baby. At the Humanitarian Center we were able to watch a video that showed recipients of these kits. Some people bring their babies home wrapped in newspaper! I feel so blessed!

Tammis put together a group to help her. She asked me (And 6 others) to find 2 helpers and we made up 1 of 6 stations. She also had a teams of runners, boxers and palletizers.
Here is our station. All ready for the willing and helping hands from BYU Women's Conference to come and help. We had a fun time setting this up on Wednesday Night.

Each kit received 4 pins and 4 diapers.

A Newborn cap.
The layettes were long yellow baby tee shirts, and each kit had a teeny pair of booties too!

Station Number One!! My awesome friend, Tanya Mealey, me & my sweet Mom!! We rocked it!! Because of our position we started our kits last, and we ended first. Do you know what that means?

The 3 of us were the only ones allowed "inside" our station. Our job was to make sure the kits were assembled in an organized way. We had two lines of 8 or more people that ended at a "Quality Control" table. Volunteers there checked to make sure that the kits were in order, no more, no less. Then one of us put an official card in the kit.
The kit was sealed.

Thrown into a mail bin, where a runner would wait for it to fill up and then take it to the boxing station. 8 per box. And then the box was sealed.
And onto a truck. And taken straight to the Humanitarian Center.
In 2010 the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints distributed 78,000 Newborn kits.

I feel very blessed to have been able to help put these together knowing that the next person who sees these kits will be a new mother. Our group was able to make 48 additional kits. That number may not be very impressive, but I'll bet those 48 Mom's will appreciate it!!! Our group made a total of 8,496 kits. In 3 hours. From start to finish. Unbelievable!!

I LOVE this post! I LOVE you and Tanya and your Mom. I LOVED that night. I would do it again in a heartbeat, and I hope I have the chance! How lucky are we...to be LDS, to live here, to get to help? A*M*A*Z*I*N*G G*R*A*C*E
